With a background in nursing, probation, and counselling, Tracy understands that people’s stories are complex. She offers a safe, authentic and consistent counselling environment for adults, including those navigating trauma, mental health challenges, justice processes, or resettlement, where you set the pace and your experience is met with respect.
Kia ora, I am Tracy, a qualified Counsellor, and a member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors, now working in private practice after working within both governmental and non-governmental settings. Prior to being a Counsellor, I worked as a nurse in NZ and the UK and then as a Probation Officer in Palmerston North.
I work with adults (18+), including people with physical and intellectual disabilities, neurodiversity and cognitive or learning differences. I am accustomed to supporting clients who have active charges or have been convicted of offences and may be subject to court or sentence conditions. I also work with refugees alongside other professionals and services accessible at HOW².
Because of my background, I understand mental health, relationships, trauma, mistakes, and the pressures attached to simply being human and all that comes along with living in a diverse and complex world. I can offer you a calm and supportive counselling space where you will be listened to, believed and never judged or labelled. My approach is grounded, authentic, and consistent while we take the time to make sense of what you are experiencing, explore new perspectives, and identify your goals or changes you want to make. We can work together to build on your strengths and develop achievable, practical skills that feel right for you. You don’t need the “right words” or a clear plan, and you set the pace.
I have helped clients with a variety of things including:
I use a strengths-based, holistic and trauma-informed therapeutic approach tailored to each individual client. Other modalities I may use are Solution focused, Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Narrative Therapy.
As a counsellor, I understand the importance of establishing a good connection to ensure you feel comfortable and able to express yourself openly. I offer a free short phone call or online meeting so you can determine whether I would be a good fit.
I am available for face-to-face sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. I may be able to accommodate some ‘out of hours’ times during weekdays and a limited number of Saturday morning times are available at times.
